11.4.2009 Why so ombre?

Today I went to interview the owner of Taipei's largest secondhand and antique store (it bills itself as an indoor flea market), so I figured I'd wear some of my own vintage things to fit in. My dress is from a tiny vintage clothing stall in Shida night market (my favorite night market... it's in an area that caters to university students, so it has a lot of cool things). The stall sells mostly t-shirts, but they also have a few dresses imported from the US. I love how the print on this one looks like an ombre wash from far away.

My lovely necklace is by Eric, the same artist who made my lion necklace a few entries back. I wish I had a better picture of this piece. He made it with a couple different types of gold-tone chain and glass pebbles, in addition to the stork charm. One of the things that I love about Eric's work is that he combines vintage US celluloid charms with a modern Taiwanese aesthetic, so I feel like his necklaces represent two things I love pretty well!

I adore my Giant Dwarf fascinator! I have three others, in green, red and yellow tones.

To reiterate, I adore the print on this dress! I had a picture without the cardigan, but I looked really psychotic in it (seriously), so I think I'll save a full-length shot of the dress for another entry.

11.3.2009 Pilgrim colors (and collar)

I finally dug a tunnel through the junk in my home office and cleared out a space to take outfit photos in! This will be a real help as the weather grows nastier and nastier. I did find a park near my house, however, that will be great for pictures (as long as I can haul my husband/sometimes willing photographer along). It is finally chilly in Taipei. The sun is still out, but I'm sure it'll duck behind the clouds soon and disappear for weeks at a stretch. Stupid sun! It's a good thing being pale is considered attractive here.

I found my vintage enamel brooch at a stand in Shida night market run by a woman who is also a simultaneous interpreter. She travels back and forth between the US and Taiwan and buys up lots of vintage jewelry while she is in the States. I'm so glad I found her! I also totally envy her language skills.

I later changed into comfier shoes to take a walk. On my way, I passed by my favorite little cement pawprints. They are so freakin' cute!

I wonder if the dog got wet cement all over paws. Speaking of furry animals, my kitten's girlfriend won't call. Aw!

A Gothic Lolita Halloween!

On the night before Halloween, I pulled out some pieces from my wardrobe and created a Gothic Lolita costume:

We went to a party where one of the highlights was pumpkin carving. I haven't stabbed a pumpkin in so long! Can you tell I was excited?
